We've seen innumerous remakes and official adaptations of movies in Bollywood but one thing that most of the filmmakers go overboard is with the script. But with Kabir Singh, Sandeep Reddy Vanga has done a great job by not fiddling with the scenes and characters, not even a bit! Apart from that, there's Shahid Kapoor as Kabir Singh who expresses every emotion with much intensity leaving us in awe of him as an actor. However, as much as we liked the movie, there are some things about Kabir Singh that are simply unsettling. So much so, that you're almost taken aback! You might have come across several reviews where people have reacted about the evident sexism and misogyny in the film. Well, that's something that we didn't like about the movie either. Despite being a passionate love story, a great movie like Kabir Singh also has its own flaws. What are those? Let's take a look at them below.
Preeti Doesn't Speak
Kiara Advani's Preeti will irk you and how in the first half of Kabir Singh simply because she doesn't talk! She barely has any dialogues in the start which is kinda annoying because she neither agrees not disagrees with Kabir. Preeti doesn't take a stand against anything and all that she does is keep starring at the ground. In the first half of Kabir Singh, its mostly Shahid's character who is unleashing uncontrollable rage, trying to protect Preeti from everyone and everything but in this process, we don't get to see Preeti's own identity, and that is a major let down.
Kabir's Dominance
Kabir loves Preeti but also dominates her. There's a scene where Kiara's Dupatta falls off of one shoulder and he tells her "Chunni seedhi karo" and makes her wear his jacket in an attempt to "cover her up". In the same scene, Kiara is seen holding a heavy handbag which he forcefully takes from her and carries it on his own shoulder. This keeps happening with an intention to show how "caring" he is but what the hell! She is very capable of carrying her own bags!
Kabir Also Fat Shames
This one's the most provocative. In a scene in the first half, Kabir is seen explaining Preeti to sit with "healthy girls" because they're "not so good looking" and they'd take care of a "good looking" girl like her. The internet (especially the movie reviewers) is mad furious with the makers for even coming up with something as shameful as this.
Like we mentioned above, Kabir Singh is all great but there are some major issues with the movie that definitely needed to be dealt with.
